Menagerie

Menagerie was formed as an arts partnership in Leicester in 1996. Since 1999 it has been based at CB2 Studio Theatre in Cambridge. The company consists of actors, directors, designers, musicians, writers and technicians who work together on the production process, and on training projects within the community. We aim to nurture, create and develop new theatre productions, often from brand-new, rare or overlooked published works. We have built up a worldwide reputation for pioneering these new pieces of work, bringing them to the public in both the UK and the US.

 

 

New Writing North

'New Writing North is the writing development agency for the north east of England. We are a unique organisation within the UK, merging as we do individual development work with writers across all media with educational work and the production of creative projects.'

 

 

North West Playwrights

North West Playwrights is an independent organisation which develops and promotes new writing for theatre. NWP does not have a membership, but anyone over the age of 18 living or working in the North West Arts Board area, can submit a play to the free Script Reading Service and call for relevant advice.

Pier Playwrights

Writers group based in Brighton offering rehearsed readings, script analysis sessions, script workshops, talks from visiting speakers, a monthly newsletter and a forum for discussion. Members' experience ranges from established professionals to those just starting out. Monthly meetings are held, and the group has strong links with local professional theatre practitioners and production companies. Membership costs £5.00 per annum.

 

 

Script

SCRIPT (formally Stagecoach!) aims to discover and develop West Midlands writers to the point where they can work professionally in the region and beyond. SCRIPT offers services to writers at all levels from earliest aspirant stages through to first commission and beyond. These include a Script Reading Service, Open Access Workshops, Skills Development Workshops, New Writing Festival with script workshops and rehearsed readings of selected plays (entry through the Script Reading Service) and a free quarterly newsletter: Staging Post. They have a database of over 900 individuals and companies in the West Midlands. SCRIPT is funded by West Midlands Arts and its services are available to anyone who lives, works or studies in the WMA region.

 
 

Script Yorkshire

Script Yorkshire (formerly Yorkshire Playwrights) is the region’s only support and advocacy organisation for script writers across performance and broadcast media. Run democratically by writers for writers, it puts the needs of members at the very core of its activity, developing both their practice and their industry connections.

 

 

Sgript Cymru

SGRIPT CYMRU - Contemporary Drama Wales is the new company designated by The Arts Council of Wales to become its national power-house for new writing in Welsh and English.

 

 

South West Screen

'South West Screen is the film, television and digital media agency for the South West of England.

'We are committed to developing a vibrant, dynamic and constantly evolving screen culture throughout the region. Our main areas of work are business development, locations, screenwriting, exhibitions, training, education and funding.

'There is a wealth of talent and a huge range of facilities here in the South West, so whether you want to shoot a major film, learn how to write scripts, get to know people in the industry or anything else, we are here to help.'

 
 

TAPS

TAPS, the Skillset-supported charity dedicated to nurturing new scriptwriting talent through unique courses and workshops. Courses include Full Length Script Development, Television Sitcom and, new for 2006, the ITV-backed Nations and Regions courses.

TAPS also runs courses aimed at industry professionals. New for professionals this season is the Continuing Series Workshop, designed to help established writers make the move from 30-minute to 60-minute returning series.

 
 

Theatre West

'Theatre West was formed in 1990 by Joint Artistic Directors Alison Comley and Ann Stiddard with the aim of producing exciting, innovative and, above all, accessible theatre.

'Our first productions were at the Showboat pub on Gloucester Road in Bristol. In 1997 we worked with the brewery Scottish and Newcastle to convert the function room of the Alma Tavern in Clifton, Bristol into a purpose built 50 seat theatre, and made the move to our present home.

'We produce an autumn season each year focusing on late 20th century and new writing, and make an annual visit to the Studio at the Bristol Old Vic.

'We have also toured Latvia on several occasions where we have cemented strong cultural links, and have been regular visitors to the Edinburgh Fringe.'

 

 

The Tobacco Factory

The venue for Southwest Scriptwriters' annual New Writing Festival since 2002.

'The Tobacco Factory is the last remaining part of the Old Wills Tobacco site on Raleigh Road, Southville [Bristol]. It was saved from demolition by Architect George Ferguson and through his vision has become a model of urban regeneration. It is now a multi-use building which houses Teoh's restaurant, a performing arts school, loft-style apartments, a café bar, offices and one of the most exciting performance venues in the country.'
