in "matthew's splinter", the memory of a young
soldier, who died ten years earlier, is a 'splinter' which still
troubles the lives of his family and neighbours...
it's only a job in office admin, but in "interviewing
alice", a simple interview results in terror, mayhem
and terminal boredom...

"honeysuckle cottage" is a radio romance set
during the second world war. a lincolnshire widow, looking back
over her life, remembers the affair she had with a dam busters
hero and its tragic outcome...
in "freehold and free", an elderly woman, a career
girl and helpless divorcée struggle to buy the lease of
their building. that's if the milkman doesn't get in there first...

the breakaway blues by eileen o'haire (seventh prize)
in "falling through", robert, who is recently widowed,
comes to clevedon with his daughter to look at retirement flats.
through a series of flashbacks, he recollects stories from his past
and also makes an important decision about his future...
described as 'thelma & louise for the saga generation', "the
breakaway blues" is the story of babs, a 60something widow
whose chance meeting with an old acquaintance causes her to re-evaluate
her life and start living for the moment... |

in "fly me to the moon", two men, stuck in a trench
during the great war, attempt to relieve their fear and boredom
by imagining some home comforts. one of the soldiers finds his imagination
is greater than he anticipated...
exploring the relationship between language and music, "percy"
is an experimental absurdist play about ritual, routine and relics. |
