Constitution
Southwest Scriptwriters was founded in 1994.
Southwest Scriptwriters aims to encourage, develop and promote new drama writing for stage, screen, radio and television throughout the region.
The group seeks these goals by striving:
- to create a supportive network for the nurturing of new drama writing
- to help members develop scripts through the pooling of writing knowledge, skills and experience
- to actively promote members' work and find ways in which to achieve professional production
- to gather and distribute information on developments in the market for new drama
- to work collaboratively with other organisations and individuals involved in drama production
- to help create an audience for new drama writing
Southwest Scriptwriters does not discriminate on grounds of age, race, gender or disability.
The group is organised by an executive
– comprising chairperson, artistic director, secretary and treasurer
– drawing on other members' skills and experience. The executive is elected every September.
Members join Southwest Scriptwriters on payment of a modest annual subscription to the group’s treasurer either at meetings or by post. Meetings are open to everyone over 18 years old regardless of membership, and dates of forthcoming events are posted on the group’s website at www.southwest-scriptwriters.co.uk. The site also provides contact details and current subscription charges, which are also listed in the Writer’s Handbook and Writers’ & Artists’ Yearbook.
In the event of the cessation of Southwest Scriptwriters, the group’s remaining funds after the payment of all outstanding debts will be donated to the Writers’ Guild of Great Britain.
